Summary:
RENU is a no-dig pipe renewal system that restores gas service lines by inserting standard polyethylene pipe into an aging low-pressure (up to 20 inches water column) steel service line. Originally developed and used in Europe by British Gas as the Live Service Insertion method, it was adapted and modified for use in the U.S. distribution system and marketplace. The contractor conducted laboratory and field testing, performed product adaptations, developed code compliance, and selected the commercial partners for transferring the technology into the U.S. marketplace. Renamed and trademarked RENU(™), the method demonstrates great potential for success. This report summarizes the technology evaluation and transfer, tests, system modification, commercialization, and deployment. The technology is offered both as a service and a product.
