Summary:
This volume assembles presentations of the workshop conducted to provide an overview of the organic lithofacies, organic carbon content, thermal maturity, and gas potential of the Devonian and Mississippian New Albany Shale in the Illinois Basin. In addition, the reservoir characteristics and completion technology for productive organic-rich Devonian shales in the Michigan and Appalachian Basins are also reviewed. Emphasis is being placed on how proven technologies together with appropriate geologic and geochemical information can be used to explore for gas in the New Albany Shale. The workshop has been sponsored by the Illinois Basin Consortium, comprised of the Illinois, Indiana, and Kentucky Geological Surveys.
