As part of the research on the alternative storage methods and certain alternatives to storage, this study is devoted to the analysis of the economic/financial attributes including the initial investment and operating costs for all facilities needed to provide storage service; operational attributes including deliverability, seasonal capacity, and volume of working gas; and intangible attributes such as contribution to reliability, contribution to flexibility, regulatory acceptance, and location. The following storage technologies were evaluated: depleted natural gas and oil reservoirs, aquifers, salt deposits, liquefied natural gas, line pack, liquefied petroleum gas, and fuel switching.
