Geological, Petrophysical and Engineering Analysis of the Barnett Shale, Mitchell Energy Corp., T.P. Sims No. 2, Wise County, Texas
This study documents data acquisition and analysis of one of several vertical co-op wells which were evaluated for future comparison of production performance with horizontal wells.
Summary:
This study documents data acquisition and analysis of one of several vertical co-op wells which were evaluated for future comparison of production performance with horizontal wells. The geologic and engineering data sets acquired in the vertical wells were to be used to design the drilling plan for subsequent horizontal wellbores. Specifically, information on natural fracture azimuth, hydraulic fracture azimuth, and fracture treatment modeling were acquired. The report includes a geologic summary, description of field operations and acquisition of open-hole data, and well test and hydraulic fracture data. Natural and induced fractures in the Barnett Shale are analyzed, and stress profiling and fracture treatment evaluations are presented. The study concludes that there is a significant angular difference between the natural and hydraulically-induced fractures. Appendixes include completed coring forms and core lithology and fracture descriptions.
